Immediately after the Tsunami devastated the coastline of Sri Lanka in December 2004 a group of 7 people based in the UK with Sri Lankan links decided to set up a charity to keep the rebuilding of Sri Lanka at the top of the agenda
Helplanka is not a disaster relief charity- we are a structured, long term autonomous charity managed by a dedicated group of people with links back in Sri Lanka on the ground. Helplanka is dedicated in providing long term assistance to children in Sri Lanka across the island. We have now completed our initial rebuilding work post Tsunami where we successfully provided food, clothing, medicine, counselling and much needed educational assistance and training. Helplanka is now focusing on assisting special needs children in Sri Lanka including fundraising to provide educational assistance to deaf and blind children, orphans and mentally and physically disabled children.
We are different in that we are only children focused and provide feedback by project to all donors.
Over the last 8 years more than 30,000 children from all ethnic communities in Sri Lanka have been helped by Helplanka to achieve a better quality of life and a brighter future. Working with partners and other established organizations we have been able to provide professional , structured assistance and have been able to ensure that the most needy and deserving children are reached and practically helped
In order for Helplanka to maintain its vital work
to help children deprived of education, and shelter
in Sri Lanka, we need continued financial assistance
and funding and rely on your support and generosity.
